Hill focusing on Richmond positives
10:07am Thursday 9th September 2010
Richmond director of rugby Steve Hill is concentrating on the positives of their opening day 35-22 defeat st Southend as his side prepare to face Ealing this weekend.
The Athletic Ground outfit battled back from 27-3 down to core three tries in the last half hour of the encounter, leaving Hill convinced things will get better.
“It was a very tough game and Southend are a very strong side, especially at home. Considering we have so many new players it will take time to gel,” he said.
“I thought in the last 25 minutes of the game we put some really good rugby together and we scored three good tries during that period. But we need to start the game stronger for sure.”
Hill's side are on the road again this weekend and face a tough trip to the early, who won their first game of the campaign.
And Richmond's director of rugby is hoping that his side can raise their game against one of the pre season favourites.
“It is a tough start for us with these two games,” he added.
“We have to go to Ealing and from minute one raise our game. Ealing will be strong throughout and they are a very consistent team.
“It will be a big physical test. I think we will have to make our first up tackles, deny them space and really get in their face. Then when we get opportunities to score we have to take them.”
Richmond's next three games: Sep 11 Ealing (a), Sep 18 Taunton (h), Sep 25 Newbury (a).
